From the beginning of my journey into rope bondage I’ve been using Hemp bondage rope. I love the idea of using natural fibers to create with. Made in Romania, the rope I use is inexpensive and easy to work with. However, I’ve been a bit disappointed with how it looks in photographs compared to others I see on the internet. Unlike the nice neat and tightly spun ropes professional riggers use, my rope looks loose and fuzzy.
Searching for other rope options, I stumbled up Knot Knormal. Reading about their bondage rope, it seemed to be just what I needed to create beautiful photos. Handmade rope that’s designed and created with the specific attention paid to its look, what more could I ask for.
Knot Knormal are bondage rope crafters that are growing by leaps and bounds. Specializing in high quality Jute rope at competitive prices, Knot Knormal is small team of home-based rope makers. With their own rope-walk, they’re able to craft rope made to order with your desired specific characteristics.
Currently Knot Knormal’s product line consists of Jute bondage rope in any size from 3mm to 8mm double-ply and single-ply in tight or loose lay. They also carry Coconut rope for serious S&M play and Knot Tying Ceremony Rope.
Knot Knormal uses two yarns for their rope making. The first is a double-ply yarn which makes a stable rope that also looks great. Second is a single-ply yarn which they use is typically used for Asanawa style bondage and is much softer than the double-ply. No matter which ply you choose, the yarn count is higher than standard ropes found on the internet. With the double-ply at 27 yarns for their 6mm rope and 45 yarns for the single-ply, you can rest assured that this rope is strong and safe to use.
Another wonderful aspect of Knot Knormal’s rope-walk is their method for spinning which allows the rope to remain a consistent size from run to run. What does that mean for you? You can order 100 foot this week and then a few months later purchase more and the size and twist will have little to none noticeable differences.
All of the bondage rope made by Knot Knormal is polished, baked, gassed and then polished again to give it the best look possible before it’s shipped to its new home. The care taken through each of these steps are apparent in the smooth look of the twist; the rope is very defined and extremely neat looking.
I love finding products that are hand crafted. I believe an artisan imparts life or soul, so-to-say, into the item they create. Running the rope through my hands conditioning it further for a softer feel, similar to an artist’s clay, it has a life of its own that I connect with. What makes this rope even better is that it’s not made by a company that who wants to cash in on the growing bondage market. Not at all. Knot Knormal, a husband and wife team, are well respected in their community. An experience rigger, Dan, has a passion of rope and a burning desire to provide quality rope for the rope community at large. A co-leader of the San Antonio rope group, he’s also a rope educator enjoys any opportunity to share his passion and knowledge of Shibari.
Testing Knot Knormal’s bondage rope has been a wonderful experience from the first moment that I opened my box. Everything that I hoped it would be and more, the rope I choose was their 6mm double-ply tight lay.
The twist is tight, neat and consistent throughout each and every piece. Also, the color is a vivid deep tan. The twist and texture is well defined and pops better then I’d imagined it would. Just as I had hoped, Knot Knormal’s rope is perfect for photography.
With a tight lay it’s also an ideal rope for those who like the S&M aspect of bondage. Since the tighter the lay the stiffer the rope, it has a strong bite against the skin. Of course the rope will soften as it’s used and using Hemp oil or Jojoba oil will soften it. But for those who enjoy the feel of firm rope, the tight lay double-ply rope is sure satisfying your kinky craving.
Don’t like the idea of stiff rope? Not to worry, Knot Knormal will talk to you personally and work with you to create a rope that’s has the qualities that you desire from your rope.
I’ve played with my bondage rope a few times and I’m impressed by the quality. Also, because of the special care taken while processing, it doesn’t shed little fibers all when I use it. Breaking it in is so much more enjoyable when there’s no mess.
After using both Hemp and Jute rope I can positively say, just as many others have noted, Jute does indeed hold knots better then Hemp. Not only do the knots have more grip, they also set neater with very little finishing. Now that I’ve tried both, I’m defiantly sticking with Jute for now on.
Knot Knormal is easy to reach if you have a question or special order. Just pop over to FetLife and shoot them a message. While you’re there stop by Dan’s rope group S.A.R.G. say “Hi” and find lots of helpful information about rope bondage.
You can even follow Knot Knormal on Twitter to keep up with their new bondage rope styles and more.
I can’t thank Knot Knormal enough for allowing me the opportunity to test out their bondage rope. The experience was better than I could’ve imagined and look forward to getting ordering more great rope.
